Tiny bee

This cute tiny amigurumi bee has been sitting on my desk since last year! I thought it was about time I wrote it up as a quick little pattern for you to crochet.

You will need:

  • Yarn: I’ve used Ricorumi Dk (100% cotton, 25g) in colours 063 Saffron, 060 Balck and 001 White.
  • 2.5mm hook (US C/2)
  • A pair of 3mm safety eyes (optional)
  • Toy stuffing, or some scrap yarn to stuff.
  • Embroidery needle
  • Stitch markers

R Round
ch Chain
sc Single crochet
hdc Half double crochet
dc
 Double crochet
sc2tog Decrease
sl st Slip stitch
st (sts) Stitch(es)
sk Skip (next st)

This pattern is designed in the amigurumi style, worked in a continuous spiral, use a stitch marker to mark the start of each round.
This pattern is written in US crochet terms.

Colour change

Where it states to change colour, do it in the last stitch of the round you have just completed (unless otherwise stated).
Start a sc as normal, but for the last part of the stitch (yo and draw through 2 loops), yo with the new colour ready to start the next round.
For a more seamless colour change make the next stitch in the new colour a slip stitch (rather than a single crochet) which will count as the first stitch.

Bee body

R 1 Make a magic ring in Saffron, 6sc into ring. Pull ring tight. (6sts)
R 2 2sc in each st around. (12sts)
R 3-4 sc in each st around. (12sts)
Insert safety eyes between rounds 2-3. These will be fiddly to attach so you can use french knots instead for eyes (sew these on at the end).
Change colour to Black
R 5 sc in each st around. (12sts)
Change colour to Saffron
R 6 sc in each st around. (12sts)
Change colour to Black
R 7 sc in each st around. (12sts)
Change colour to Saffron
R 8-9 sc in each st around. (12sts)
Stuff bee.
R 10 (sc2tog) 6 times. (6sts)
Finish stuffing then use the tail end to sew through the front loops of the last round. Pull tight to close and weave in end.

If you haven’t used safety eyes then create 2 eyes in the Black yarn using French Knots.

Wings (make 2)

Ch 6 in White, dc in 4th ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch.
Sew onto the back of the bee.

Ta da! You’re tiny bee is finished 🙂
