Free mini heart crochet pattern
So, January seemed to fly by and now here we are in February. Whether you celebrate Valentine’s day or not, we all need a little love in our life. So here is a sweet little heart for you to crochet. You can give it to someone or keep it yourself. Or maybe you could leave it somewhere for stranger to pick up, maybe even leave a little note. Wouldn’t that be wonderful to find?
This pattern is for the smallest red heart. If you would like to buy a PDF copy of the pattern which includes all three hearts plus a decorative heart then click here.
You will need
YARN: Scheepjes Catona, 4 ply, 100% cotton, 115 Hot Red.
The heart in this pattern is made from the yarn above, but these can be made from any yarn and are good stash busters. Why not make some out of chunky or super chunky yarn for some super sized hearts.

Mini Heart Pattern (3.5cm tall)
Make a magic ring in yarn C.
R 1 ch1 (does not count as a st throughout), 6dc into ring. Pull ring tight. (6sts)
R 2 2dc in each st around. (12sts)
R 3-4 dc in each st around. (12sts)
Sl st then fasten off. Repeat R 1-4 (do not fasten off) and then continue below.
R 5 Continue with the half sphere just completed, 6dc, insert hook into the first half sphere (in the st just after you fastened off, see image A), 12dc, insert hook back into the next st of the second half sphere, 6dc. (24sts)
R 6-7 dc in each st around. (24sts)
If there is a hole where the 2 pieces are joined, sew it closed using an embroidery needle and the tail end left on the first half sphere.
R 8 (dc2tog, 8dc, dc2tog) 2 times. (20sts)
As the rounds get smaller it can get a bit fiddly, just take your time to make it as neat as possible. If you are using invisible decreases, reverting to regular decreases may help.
R 9 (dc2tog, 6dc, dc2tog) 2 times. (16sts)
R 10 (dc2tog, 4dc, dc2tog) 2 times. (12sts)
R 11 (dc2tog, 2dc, dc2tog) 2 times. (8sts)
Remove st marker and sl st to close the spiral. Fasten off.
Thread the tail end onto the needle and make running stitches around the stitches of the last round. Pull the yarn to close the hole and then sew in the end. (See image B).
